PHX Beer Co.

I have to admit, coming from my home state of Colorado--where you can find a micro-brewery, a dispensary, and a Starbucks on just about every corner--the transition to AZ was a bit of a learning curve.  We love micro-brews!  So when we visited Scottsdale to scout out neighborhoods for a potential move, we chose our neighborhood because it is within walking distance of PHX Beer Co. (Sure, Andy will say the cost of living, property value, blah blah boring...but don't be fooled.) We love micro-brew beers that much.

Ambience:  Located on the edge of Lake Marguerite in Scottsdale, PHX Beer Co has beautiful views of the oddly colored lake. You can watch people bike riding, fishing, and jogging. The patio is sunny, but there is some shade and also heaters for the evening. Inside is tastefully decorated in a bit of an industrial style that you would expect from a brewery.  Concrete floors, beer kegs turned to light fixtures, and a great room feel.

Quality:  The menu has a great selection of sandwiches, burgers, salads, pizzas, and snacks. As a foodie, I am always up to try new foods.  As a carnivore, I was a little nervous about the Impossible Burger I ordered on my first visit to PHX Beer Co.  It was really good!  Surprisingly so.  I recommend it to all my meat eating friends as a way to ease them into something new.  The pizzas are also very good with some new topping combinations and some classics.  But, I suppose you came here for the beer review. The beer is very good.  I am a fan of malty beers, Andy loves hoppy beers.  We can each find stand-by favorites, as well as try new brews while we're at it. I'm never confused or disappointed when trying to find a beer on their list. Occasionally, other brewery lists are IPA heavy, or the brewer got a little too creative with the raisins this month, or they only brewed sours, etc...This is not the case at the Beer Co. They have a nice range, and rotate a smattering of new recipes, so the beer list is familiar and new at the same time. Bartenders allow you to sample and are happy to discuss their favorites with you.

Service: The staff is always friendly.  They have a minute for short, get-to-know-you conversations, but they stay on top of their tables.  Of course, there is that casual brewery service feel, order at the bar or grab a table, whatever suits you is fine. We usually like to sit on the patio because people watching is one of our favorite activities.  The service on the patio is as thorough and friendly as the service inside.

Value: Food and drinks are reasonably priced. If you are simply looking for a patio afternoon or a casual weekend dinner PHX Beer Co will accommodate you just fine. We visit often and find the beers, food, and service to be very consistent.

As a side note: The sprinklers run after dark. So if you ride your super cute pink and white cruiser bike with the fancy pink flashy lights and park it on the grass outside the patio, then stay for a beer (or three), don't be surprised if the sprinklers turn on as you wobble away on your bike.  It's not because you don't know how to ride your bike.  You just might be caught off guard, fall off your bike, and then get all wet. And you just might accidentally get some goose poo on your new shorts. I don't know from experience, I heard it from a friend. I just feel you should be aware.  Safety first.

All in all we love PHX Beer Co.  It's a perfect place to bring your friends and pass the afternoon.  The food is great and beers are better. Just beware of those pesky sprinklers.
